This time I've been tagged by Wendy to expose 7 quirks. Goodness... you guys are really making me have to think about a lot... hmmm
1. I am the worlds worst baker! I can cook really well, but I don't like to follow recipes (probably why I am bad at baking).
2. I fidget (or you could say stim) with my fingers whenever I am thinking.
3. I tend to break down everything I look at terms of the lines and shapes.
4. My elbows are double jointed and although I was never much of a swimmer, I was always very good at the backstroke because of my funky elbows.
5. I tend to talk loud... learned behavior from growing up in a family of 8 all of whom are very opinionated.
6. I am a sucker for a man in uniform
7. I am always 15 minutes late wherever I go, despite the fact that I hate being late. I tend to get a slight case of road rage when I am in a hurry... which of course, is most of the time.

Better Late than Never...
So I've been tagged by Bethany... umm... on October 5th... whoops! I'm a little late, but better late than never, right?
... the task at hand is to divulge six random facts about myself that others might not know ... hmmm ... I am pretty much an open book, so I'll do my best...
1) I love to fly and after high school I was very close to becoming a flight attendant. I got as far as turning in the initial application... then I met my future husband and that was that.
2) I have a fear of automatic doors (i.e. elevator doors and garage doors). I've never had any justification for my fear until... In college my friend's backpack (while on her back) got stuck in the elevator door at Georgia State and the elevator starting moving up to the next floor. She was stuck until someone yanked her free. I still hurry through elevator doors and under garage doors.
3) I inherited my artistic talent from my mother's side of the family. My mother is very talented and my great Aunt was a professional artist. My brother, John is very talented, too.
4) I was super shy as a child! So shy that I wouldn't let anyone take my picture for years. The school would send notes home on picture day saying that they I refused to let them take my picture.
5) My twin brother and I were very in tune with each other growing up and could feel when the other one was in trouble. For example: In high-school he got in a very bad car accident. Before I knew about the accident I felt very nauseous and my wrist was hurting. My mom received a phone call within minutes and I knew something was wrong. At that moment my brother was throwing up due to shock and had hurt his arm. We are not as close as we used to be and live in different states, but I still love him more than anything and miss him a lot.
6) I became an Aunt at 12 years old. My oldest brother (who is 15 years older than I) had his first child, Ethan, on December 12th.
Okay, so now that I have said my 6 things I am supposed to tag 6 more people. I tag...

School Picture Time
I love getting school pictures!! I wait patiently and nervously each year and hope that they turn out good enough to reason that it was worth the money. Mary gets two sets of school pictures this year, since she attends two schools. Well, we recieved her picture from the private pre-school she attends. It turned out really cute. She looks super chubby, but she posed perfectly with her head tilted and a sweet smile. I was worried that she would put on her "pretty" smile which looks more like she is tensed in pain, but fortunately she was shy enough to be reserved.

MIA
Okay, so obviously I didn't make it through the whole 31 for 21 thing, since I haven't posted in almost 2 weeks. It's the thought that counts, though, right? I intended to post about the 2008 Down Syndrome Awareness Buddy Walk that we participated in on Saturday, October 4th, but somebody (Jeremy) has had the camera at work since then. Well, now I have the camera back, but I can't find the hook up to connect it to the computer... I just can't win! Well, enough excuses... I am sorry for being missing in action, but I am about to make up for it. We have had a busy week and a half and I have a lot of pictures to share... Now that I have explained myself I guess I'll get to posting...

31 for 21 (post 3)
Myth: People with Down syndrome have a short life span.
Truth: Life expectancy for individuals with Down syndrome has increased dramatically in recent years, with the average life expectancy approaching that of peers without Down syndrome.
Myth: Most children with Down syndrome are born to older parents.
Truth: Most children with Down syndrome are born to women younger than 35-years-old simply because younger women have more children. However, the incidence of births of children with Down syndrome increases with the age of the mother.
** I turned 26 years old the month after Mary was born. I was 28 when I had Amelia.

31 for 21 (Post 2)
Myth: Down syndrome is a rare genetic disorder.
Truth: Down syndrome is the most commonly occurring genetic condition. One in every 733 live births is a child with Down syndrome, representing approximately 5,000 births per year in the United States alone. Today, more than 400,000 people in the United States have Down syndrome.
** 90% of children are aborted each year due to a prenatal Down Syndrome diagnoses.
